SingleHop, a global leader in cloud hosting, was highlighted as part of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s press event yesterday on broadband innovation in the Windy City. SingleHop and the other 21 companies showcased at the event will collectively contribute over 2,000 jobs in the Chicago area by the year 2015. SingleHop alone estimates the addition of 300 new jobs during that time frame.
The event was held at GrubHub’s worldwide headquarters in downtown Chicago, to announce the Mayor’s new initiative to expand high speed Internet access in Chicago. It included presentations of various technology companies and products, and culminated in a speech by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who announced the initiative to solicit an RFP for the high speed broadband Internet project.
During the Mayor’s remarks, he indicated that early in his administration he asked area entrepreneurs how he could best support growth in the tech sector, and one of the ideas that came up repeatedly was to expand access to high speed Internet to as much of the city as possible.
“Chicago has always been a great place for the technology industry, which is one of the reasons we call it home and plan to add 300 jobs here by 2015,” noted Dan Ushman, CMO and co-founder of SingleHop. “After attending the event, I can say that we are very pleased that Mayor Emanuel has continued to demonstrate his commitment to the Windy City’s tech industry. The RFP for improvements to the Chicago's communications infrastructure will only strengthen its appeal to other technology companies, and that is a very good thing for everyone who calls Chicago home.”
