Auburn, NY (PRWEB) September 27, 2012
Fall is the perfect time to get outdoors and see the beautiful foliage that New York's Finger Lakes region has to offer, plus savor the wines, foods and events of the season.
Cayuga County Tourism suggests ideas for a day trip, weekend getaway or extended stay. Among them are:
Water to Wine Tours
Get a closer look at the foliage with a scenic boat tour. Water To Wine Tours offer a unique opportunity to visit the award winning Finger Lakes wineries from a boat while cruising the sparkling waters of Cayuga Lake. View Victorian homes with lakefront gardens and vintage boathouses. All scheduled cruises depart from the dock at O'Malley's Restaurant in Interlaken, NY or the Aurora Inn in Aurora, NY.
Known for many years as a great place to pick and buy apples, The Apple Station is Cayuga County's newest winery featuring sparkling apple wines from the family-operated orchard. Located in Union Springs, The Apple Station is open daily through December for tastings of eight separate varieties of wine including dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet. Enjoy U-pick apples, hayrides, farm store and petting zoo.
Kick up your heels and dance to the sounds of old fashioned country music at a Harvest Hoedown. Enjoy live Jazz bands, or feel the grapes between your toes. Numerous family events on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail are offered during the months of September, October and November which incorporate food, music and wine. A complete listing is available at http://cayugawinetrail.com/events/harvest-hoopla.
Make a weekend out of it. Most area Inns and B&Bs offer a themed overnight wine package such as The Wine Vacation with Friends, offered at 10 Fitch in Auburn. This includes a six-hour guided tour of the Finger Lakes region and wineries of the Cayuga Wine Trail, picnic lunch, and four course gourmet dinner in nearby Skaneateles. This package starts at $458 per couple (based on two couples).
Another option is the Sip, Dip & Stay offered by the Auburn/Finger Lakes Holiday Inn. Enjoy a bottle of Finger Lakes wine upon check-in, close proximity to seven wineries, free wine glasses from King Ferry Winery and coupon books to local boutiques, shops and restaurants.
