Carrollwood Day School’s Chair of the Board of Trustees, Scott Price, announced last week that Mr. Ryan P. Kelly will assume the role of Head of School effective July 1, 2013.

In 2011 Kelly was selected by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) to receive an NAIS Fellowship for Aspiring School Heads. During this yearlong professional development program, he participated in an intensive leadership institute and studied the major issues facing independent schools today. Kelly has previously participated in Harvard University’s professional development program for New and Aspiring School Leaders and the Sun Valley Leadership Institute, an organization that focuses on helping educators in leadership positions build strong, ethical cultures. In 2008, he was the winner of the Boise Rotary Distinguished Educator Award. Kelly is also a National Board Certified Teacher of Science. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from University of Oregon and his M.A. in Education from University of Colorado.

Mr. Kelly joined the administrative team at Carrollwood Day School in August 2008 as principal of the high school. For the past year, he has worked closely with retiring head of school, Mary Kanter, as he took on added responsibilities as the Assistant Head of School.

Mr. Kelly and his wife, Kate, are thrilled to set deep roots in Tampa Bay and look forward to continuing to be active in the school community across all divisions of Carrollwood Day School.

Scott Price said, “Mr. Kelly’s years of experience at Carrollwood Day School and his commitment to our culture provides him the unique vantage point of knowing what is working well and the areas that will need refinement to ensure CDS takes the leap to the next level of greatness.”

“I am extremely excited to take the helm of what I consider to be the finest educational institution in Tampa Bay. I am confident that my vision and work ethic will demonstrate my passion for character education, the IB Programmes, and my commitment to the students, faculty and staff, administrators, Board of Trustees and families of Carrollwood Day School,” said Kelly.
