I went through a lot,” says Willis. “God was always with me. He protected me from more than you can ever imagine.

In her new memoir “A Little Lost Soul Found a Friend” (published by Trafford Publishing), Deatrix Willis presents a devastating story of abuse. While Willis’ young life was shattered by one tragedy after another, she discovered an inner resolve that led to her eventual transcendence over her abuse.

Publicizing her abuse was a form of therapy for Willis. “I wanted to let my father know what his little girl went through because of what he did,” she says.

Set in the unforgiving streets of Los Angeles, “A Little Lost Soul Found a Friend” is intimate in scope. Detailing Willis’ many ways of surviving on the streets, it is both a tale of caution and a tale of triumph.

“I went through a lot,” says Willis. “God was always with me. He protected me from more than you can ever imagine.”

An excerpt from “A Little Lost Soul Found a Friend”:

“I use to cry, nobody loves me, and this voice came in my head I love you and as long as I love you, you don’t have to worry about nobody else loving you. I use to just cry and say my mother don’t love me my daddy don’t love me ,and the voice got a little louder, it said I love you and as long as I love you, you don’t have to worry about anybody else loving you. But I still just cried and cried and the voice got real loud this time I love you and as long as I love you, you don’t have to worry about anybody loving you. I grabbed my head and said ok father I hear you.”

Willis credits her faith with delivering her from the pitfalls of homelessness, abuse and poverty.
