"These students are often bright and capable, and many want desperately to succeed."
Westport, CT (PRWEB) September 28, 2012
Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc. (SKLD) is pleased to announce its presentation of a workshop with Dr. Peg Dawson, the renowned expert on ADHD and executive function disorders. The half-day workshop will be held Monday, October 22 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Stamford Marriott Hotel in Stamford, CT. The ticket price of $75 includes breakfast and complimentary parking.
Students with attention disorders often struggle at the middle and high school level because schools place increasing demands on them to organize themselves and work independently, Dr. Dawson notes. They routinely forget to write down assignments, complete homework, or hand it in on time. They have tremendous difficulty using their time wisely, both in school and at home. They often don’t know how to break down long-term assignments and develop reasonable time lines—or follow the time lines they create.
"These students are often bright and capable, and many want desperately to succeed," Dr. Dawson said. "What gets them in trouble are poor organization and time management skills—along with feelings of discouragement built up over years of failing to meet the expectations of parents, teachers, and even themselves."
This seminar will provide an overview of coaching, an evidence-based strategy uniquely suited to help underachieving students with attention disorders and executive skill deficits become more successful in school, and in meeting their career goals.
Peg Dawson, EdD, is a staff psychologist at the Center for Learning and Attention Disorders in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she specializes in the assessment of children and adults with learning and attention disorders.
