In his illustrated children’s book “Freedom of the Waves” (published by Trafford Publishing), author Peter L. Ward takes young readers on the full Viking journey, compiling all of his Viking series into a single, omnibus volume.
“Freedom of the Waves” begins with a daring escape as a group of young Vikings flee their violent Viking roots and set out across the sea. Their brave escape is a success, and they even manage to save a slave, Saxon Emma, who has been condemned for sacrifice.
But, as events unfold in the second book of the trilogy, it appears as if the gods are angry because of their actions. Heroine Freya faces harsh punishment, and must go before the great god Odin who will decide their fate. Once again, the group hears the call of someone in need, and they embark on a quest to find and free Freya from the clutches of the Fenris-Wolf.
In book three, readers follow Eric and the Mystical Bear on a new adventure. It is the story of Eric being forced to look into himself to find the courage to stand up to the Black Shuck, an evil creature of legend. Eric’s orphaned bear cub, Beowulf, comes to the rescue of the banished Viking outcasts.
“Freedom of the Waves” is a journey into the depths of mythology and into the hearts of friends who, despite a sea witch, giants, and dangerous mermaids, will not back down. Their Viking spirits are strong, and their courage never wanes.
“‘Freedom of the Waves’ will appeal to children and young teens wanting to stretch their imaginations and become engrossed in an impossible set of adventures. They will warm to the boy and girl heroes and heroines,” explains Ward. “There is an implicit message that young people are fine and have every reason to think well of themselves and for their future.”
