From co-authors J. Martin Hays and Christopher C. Kim, Transforming Leadership For The 21st Century is a book presenting their four-year-long and extensive research on leadership heralding a new renaissance. It has two objectives: to compare how leaders and leadership are understood then and now, and identify important shifts in theory or practice; and to see if leadership development and management education programs are in line with how they are being presented in literature.

In this book, the co-authors conclude that conventional leaders and leadership of the past are insufficient to meet the demands of the 21st Century. The challenges and opportunities of this century call for a new type of leader and leadership, indeed an entirely new and different way of thinking about leadership and of developing future leaders. Hays and Kim provide that new way of thinking and introduce readers to eight sets of competencies essential for leadership in the new millennium. Those who possess or are developing these competence sets are Renaissance Leaders, and it is they who can and will lead and transform organisations, communities, and nations most effectively. This text provides essential guidance to anyone concerned with developing their own or others’ leadership for the 21st Century.

As the Information Revolution is rapidly transforming politics and organisations, this book serves as an indispensable guide as leaders tread this new and uncharted territory of leadership in the coming decades. Laden with information leading to a well-grounded conclusion, Transforming Leadership For The 21st Century will be the kind of book that will usher in this new brand of leaders.
