Since his early years, boxing has always been the life and passion of author Brian S. Ingram. In Australian Boxing World Champions, Ingram charts the career stories of Australia’s boxing stars, ranging from those who punch their way back in the Pioneer Days down to the newcomers of the modern boxing era.

It is important to note that this knockout collection focuses on the career tales of the boxing champions, rather than their life stories. Many of the champions unacknowledged by the world that are included in Australian Boxing World Champions have been forgotten and overlooked, and Ingram felt that there is a need to recognize their deeds inside the ring. “Many of the great characters of Australian boxing existed prior to World War I and the Australian boxing community and the Australian public deserve to be made aware of the achievements of those boxers,” Ingram wrote. “From the time of Les Darcy, it was 70 years before the next Australian boxer won a world title on home soil.”

Whether it’s a tale of victory or a tragic loss in the ring, Ingram writes with a powerful punch that will surely awe readers, particularly enthusiasts of the sport. The careers of Jeff Fenech, Lester Ellis, Dave Smith, Larry Foley (father of Australian boxing), to name only a few, are flawlessly laid out in this definitive volume of Australia’s boxing history.

Australian Boxing World Champions is certainly a must-read for both fans and non-fans alike; the stories in the collection by turns inspire, educate and fascinate.
