The American Bankers Association (ABA) was founded in 1875 and it represents the $13 trillion banking industry and its 2 million employees in the US including banks of all sizes and charters.

The ABA focuses on combining experience and insights, in-depth expertise, unmatched resources and extensive products and resources in order to make their members more successful. Their core view is that when banks are strong and healthy, their communities and customers thrive. The theme for this year’s ABA 2012 Annual Convention is ‘Mission: Possible’ and members and attendees will unite, commit and connect to examine challenging issues and share solutions in order to ensure that the banking community stays out front and in the lead. The convention also offers a platform for banking professionals to have access to a wide range of the latest solutions which assist in addressing the challenges of financial organizations today.

Processing transactions, automating business processes and managing vital information are core components of the banking industry. Banks need to efficiently manage paper flow in an electronic manner and safeguard sensitive information. Regulations such as Red Flag, HIPAA, and Patriot Act make this industry highly guarded and accurate customer credentials are mandatory. CSSN’s OCR systems have contributed extensively to the management and efficient operation in the banking industry. These systems allow users to achieve a fully automated information flow, improving accuracy and efficiency in document processing, thereby preventing unnecessary errors. With a minimum of manual interference, the OCR software automatically finds and extracts information from a variety of documents. This technology is not limited to magnetic strip or bar-code reading and CSSN’s high-level DSP (digital signal processing) algorithms are able to help filter and clean tarnished images received from an ID scanner, such as driver license images with non-uniform background colors and text that are covered with stamps and holograms. This important data is then interpreted and transported into other applications. With CSSN’s comprehensive OCR SDK (Software Developer Kit), developers are able to easily incorporate this reading technology directly into their existing software application.

At the ABA 2012 Convention, CSSN will demonstrate their idScan® OCR software which is a an easy-to-use id scanner modular application, capable of scanning a variety of personal cards such as driver licenses, ID cards, medical insurance cards, passports, business cards, as well as checks and photos. idScan® is capable of reading a card's printed information from both sides, as well as from barcodes and magnetic strips. This OCR software is also the only driver license card reader that can truly extract text and read cards from all 50 US states. The full image of a license, or face and signature image only can be captured and this data can then be arranged into the appropriate text fields of a file or the clipboard. The extracted image and data can also be exported to various applications, email, FTP and the web. In a banking environment, extracting vital client data is made simple and efficient with CSSN’s idScan® OCR software.

idScan® is also the perfect tool for the new accounts registration process. With an image of a driver’s license or state ID, pertinent information such as name, address, date of birth, and signature can be populated into registration pages. Since identification images require privacy protection, they can be stored via password accessible or through encryption. Since idScan® enables the user to scan electronic files, office organization is improved and tax and auditing procedures are also simplified by fast and easy access to information. The end result is improved client satisfaction, lower costs and improved profitability.

CSSN also offers idScan® for checks which enables users to scan checks quickly and easily into high resolution images. The check’s data information is also captured and arranged in appropriate database fields. The idScan® check scanner solution uses MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) technology to read the check’s MICR line, providing the user with the check number, account number and routing number. In addition, idScan® for checks extracts and provides the user with all the information on the check such as the name and address of the payer and payee, check amount, etc. This OCR software for checks relieves data processors of a significant amount of work and increases data recording accuracy and efficiency.

The idScan® OCR software comes with a choice of high quality, color scanners, ranging from A6 to A4, with a resolution of 600 dpi. All scanners are TWAIN compatible (excluding the SnapShell® hardware series), and the scanners connect to the computer's USB port, thus requiring no external power supply. With the use of CSSN’s ScanShell® scanners, SnapShell® scanners and/or any TWAIN imaging device, card images are accurately and efficiently captured. The ScanShell® and SnapShell® hardware series serves as a multipurpose card scanning system for a wide range of cards and these devices are also available in simplex or duplex capabilities. Once the scanning begins, the idScan® OCR then instantaneously takes over the process and exports and stores the data and the images into the relevant application.

CSSN has already integrated their idScan® OCR software solution and their ScanShell® and SnapShell® scanners with a wide variety of banking companies giving their users access to a far superior and flexible management solution. For those users who are utilizing software which CSSN is not integrated with yet, CSSN offers a wide range of non-OCR image only scanners and solutions that will meet one's requirements. Whether one's firm needs to simply capture identifying information using an ID scanner, or full financial documents, CSSN has the right solution for the user.

CSSN is also excited to announce that they will be a part of the ABA 2012 Annual Convention Mobile App. This is a native application for iPad, smartphones (iPhone and Android), a hybrid web-based app for Blackberry. There is also a web-based version of the application for all other web browser-enabled phones. For attendees at the ABA 2012 Convention, the app provides easy-to-use interactive capabilities to enhance the event experience. The dashboard will keep one organized with up-to-the-minute exhibitor, speaker and event information. The user is also able to organize their schedule with one click. Alerts will allow the user to receive important real-time communications from the event organizer and be sure to join in on the built-in Twitter feed.

By integrating CSSN’s idScan® OCR software into a banking or financial organization, users will gain a competitive edge in the extraction, processing and storage of vital client information. With the wide range of scanning hardware available in CSSN’s SnapShell® and ScanShell® hardware series, CSSN has the right solution for the user. The ABA 2012 Annual Convention in California will give the user the opportunity to learn more about CSSN and how it can assist one's practice so step into booth 106 and let CSSN meet and exceed requirements.
