Sullivan PDR Estimator™ Helps Multi-Shop Operators with Estimating Consistency

Body shop chains increase efficiency and revenues with paintless dent estimator.

With the new system, ... practically anyone can produce PDR estimates quickly and accurately with hardly any training at all.

A new web-based estimating system for paintless dent repair (PDR) seems to be just what the doctor ordered for body shop chains who offer PDR services. In the past, shops with more than one location would unwittingly raise customer suspicions when customers getting repair estimates at more than one of the company’s shops got differing estimates. “The old way of estimating was just too subjective,” remembers SPDRE inventor Jim Sullivan. “The PDR technician or the estimator giving the estimate at one shop might be gougingly high, while the estimate coming from the other shop would be considerably low.” With the new system, however, practically anyone can produce PDR estimates quickly and accurately with hardly any training at all.

The problem of MSO estimating inconsistency was voiced well in an unrelated 2011 interview released before the release of the Sullivan PDR Estimator™ solved the problem for the PDR segment of the industry. Philadelphia area’s Keenan Auto Body COO, Mike LeVasseur put it this way: "If you were to come to one of our stores in Clifton Heights and get an estimate, and the next day your wife takes the same car to our store in Northeast Philly and gets a completely different estimate, that's not good. We are constantly calibrating our estimators so they write down the same specifics.”*

The Sullivan PDR Estimator™ has done just that sort of calibrating right in the software, prompting human estimators in how to properly measure dents and to notate the various difficulty factors involved in accurate pricing. “We took several years worth of actual repair data from veteran PDR techs,” says Sullivan, “and built it into an algorithm that accurately prices it all right down to whether the dent is creased or near a panel’s edge. It’s so easy to use that even a novice can quickly produce an accurate estimate so that a PDR tech doesn’t even have to be present until time for the repair.

Sullivan PDR Estimator™ will display at the 2012 NACE Exhibition in New Orleans from October 11-13, 2012 in booth N907. Visitors to the booth may enter to win one of two iPads to be given away. About Sullivan PDR Estimator™
The Sullivan PDR Estimator™ web application is a Patent-Pending software created by co-inventors Jim Sullivan and Jack Pelham. The service launched in June 2012 after several years in development and an exciting introduction to the automotive industry at the 2011 NACE Exposition. The system includes two separate applications: one for estimating dents of any size, and the other is customized for hail damage.
