Gato Salvaje, an independent Spanish developer, today announced plans to make AR-K, its 3D animation video game, compatible across Android-based gaming consoles such as Ouya. The company also announced plans to translate AR-K into multiple languages and create a specially adapted full-version for the visually impaired. In order to complete the project, Gato Salvaje has until Tuesday, Aug 7th to raise enough funds via Kickstarter to meet its crowdfunding goal of $150,000 USD.
AR-K is a self-described ‘Dark Acid Comedy Adventure’ that captivates the imagination. Told from the perspective of Alice a journalism student, who has just woken up in a strange futuristic world, the story is a classic point-and-click adventure which blends rich 3D animation, humour, unexpected plot twists and talented voice actors into an unforgettable saga. Professional Spanish voice actors in the project include: María Castro, Antonio Durán "Morris", Andrés Bellas (Jurassic Park, The Coneheads, Hot Shots 2) and Miguel Pernas (Last Action Hero, The Fugitive, Cliffhanger).
“We didn’t have a million-dollar production budget when we created AR-K Episode I, and despite that we were able to create very high-quality animation and details, plus our fans have been extremely supportive and offered great feedback that has pushed us to work harder,” said Sergio Prieto, Founder and CEO, Gato Salvaje. “With the growing trend in open-sourced gaming, it was a natural decision to make the game available to a wider audience via Android. Community driven opportunities such as crowdfunding are opening up new opportunities for independent game developers like us. At the end of the day, we simply love what we do and wanted to share that experience.”
Gato Salvaje is trying to raise $150,000 USD in 30 days to finish the project, which will include four episodes, translations into multiple languages, including German, French and Portuguese. Episode I is available dubbed into Spanish, English and in Italian with subtitles. The rich narrative point-and-click style of AR-K is well suited for visually impaired gamers, who often don’t have access to full versions due to the high-cost of game adaptations. By making the video game available to all gamers across multiple platforms and multiple languages, Gato Salvaje hopes to attract a wider audience to the genre of crowdfunded games where quality content comes first.
Independent developers Gato Salvaje chose Kickstarter based on the platforms success in spearheading original community funded projects. AR-K is the first independently developed Spanish video game to use crowdfunding. The company is seeking 7,000 pledges via Kickstarter, in order to finance the final episodes and expansion. In exchange for pledges, participants will receive access to the game, exclusive mugs and t-shirts, personalized drawings of game characters and even a trip to La Coruna, Spain, to meet the Gato Salvaje team of developers. A free download of AR-K Episode one is available from the Kickstarter project page.
