LifeStorage, Chicago self storage provider for home and business and office solutions, is excited to announce the acquisition and opening of a new property from Harrison Jefferson Holdings located in the South West Loop at 601 W. Harrison Street in Chicago. This facility is the 19th LifeStorage facility and the eighth in the city proper. Located on a 1.23-acre lot on the corner of Harrison Street and Jefferson Street, the building, originally constructed in 1964 and converted for storage purposes in 2006, adds yet another feather in LifeStorage's cap and another neighborhood to offer the unique and high-end self-storage LifeStorage is known for.
“There's an advantage to purchasing a facility that is pre-made, so to speak, and one that we only have to re-purpose to our needs. Since this building was a self-storage facility, we already had a strong starting point. The units, the security...all of these things were already present, as is a nifty three-story drive-thru, which should offer some excellent convenience. We just needed to ramp up our staff, get our people in place, and make sure it's ready to display the LifeStorage logo and everything that comes with being a LifeStorage facility,” said LifeStorage Director of Operations Michelle Wight.
LifeStorage South West Loop contains 1,021 storage units with 71% of the units currently occupied. LifeStorage is currently in the process of re-branding and staffing the facility, but as it stands, the building is in good shape. The facility features heating and air conditioning, heated drive-in loading bays, a three-story drive-thru. It's also replete with top-notch, 24/7 digital security, video monitoring, and digital keypad access.
“This facility will fall under Area Manager Shalonda Siler's watchful eye, and we know she'll do a wonderful job making sure the facility is staffed appropriately. Store Manager Malia Motley is already on site and managing and with Shalonda, she is helping get everyone up to speed on LifeStorage and its practices. We're excited too since the neighborhood is a prominent part of our great city. It's home to McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America, so exciting to be within the radius of such an iconic building,” Wight said.
