Turner Construction Company was recently selected by the State of Maryland to provide Construction Manager at-Risk services for the new Youth Detention Center located in Prince George’s County, MD.
Turner will provide construction management services during the design and construction of the Cheltenham Youth Facility. Scheduled for completion in 2015, the project involves the raising of a number of buildings on the Facility site, and the construction of a new 72-bed detention facility, which will house male juvenile offenders who are in need of secure care. The new 91,000 SF facility will contain housing, administration, admissions/release, somatic/behavioral health, food service, education, recreation, and visitation areas.
The center is being designed and constructed to ensure quality education in order to address the wide range of educational needs of the anticipated population. This will include regular education, special education, as well as career exploration. The center will also allow for constant “direct supervision” by the staff of Cheltenham Youth Facility to ensure that the youth remain safe and secure.
“Turner Construction is very pleased to continue our relationship with the State of Maryland through this project that will protect the safety of the people while ensuring the best possible environment for juvenile offenders,” stated Ken Jones, Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Company’s DC office.
