The retailers having the best luck moving mountains of stuff are quenching one or both of the millennials’ cravings—either their love of all things digital or their desire to live well by doing good,” says Salzman.

VMSD presents the IRDC Roadshow, a one-day educational conference that examines the demographics, shopping habits and thought processes of today’s millennials. The conference for retail designers takes place on June 7, 2012 at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. This mini-IRDC features a millennial expert, a panel of retail designers who are keen to this generation of under-30 shoppers. Each will share their retail experiences and successful business strategies directed at the millennial population.

Renowned trendspotter and keynote speaker, Marian Salzman, CEO of Euro RSCG Worldwide PR and ER Life PR, will share her insights on millennials and their buying power, shopping tendencies and how to create retail experiences that keep them coming back. “The retailers having the best luck moving mountains of stuff are quenching one or both of the millennials’ cravings—either their love of all things digital or their desire to live well by doing good,” says Salzman.

Other speakers from multiple retail sectors include Michelle Fenstermaker, WD Partners; Steven Derwoed, Macy’s; Emily Miller, Big Red Rooster; Anthony Perez, Starbucks Coffee Co.; and Nicole Rehfuss, Little.

Conference topics comprise “everything millennial.” Morning sessions, with subsequent Q&As, will be devoted to millennials and technology, millennials as parents, and millennials and the food-shopping experience. In the afternoon, two case-study presentations detail how to successfully and consistently target millennial shoppers. The day ends with a Q&A panel discussion featuring retail design students and recent graduates who will reflect on the millennial experience from their own millennial point of view.

“The Roadshow is designed to arm retail designers with everything they need to know about the millennial shopper,” explains Conference Chair Kristin Zeit. “This soon-to-be-largest consumer group is poised to change the face of shopping during the next decade, and our program is designed to give retailers deep insight into engaging this audience.”
