The latest SuperFastBusiness post is short and sweet but definitely a thought-provoking one for people who are always thinking of smart business strategies to employ to increase their profits. James Schramko’s recent visit to Italy inspired him to share his observation on a cool retail business tactic used by a roadside café he had stumbled upon.
“You can see people go in the store. There’s a food court, there’s McDonald’s, there’s a coffee shop and it’s great. There are really good restrooms, business lounge and free Wi-Fi. But to get out, you have to go through the shop and it’s like a checkout of the rollercoaster with the merchandise like every single aisle. So it’s like this little honey pot,” Schramko remarks about the business establishment that definitely elevated the standards of “sales friendly”.
He adds, “Great business idea. I’m sure they make impulse sales because people have to go through to get out. I’ve never seen anything quite like this on a roadside stop. It’s pretty cool.”
The great business lesson behind this is: “A strategically placed exit increases sales.” This is true especially in places that tourists visit since many consumers easily succumb to a buying impulse right when they are by the exit. Those little knick knack souvenirs, candies and other goodies by the cash register are a carefully thought of sales strategy more than a proper space utilization solution – there’s psychology behind it and it translates into profits.
