While the ezShade is a great product and a great fit with Walmart’s customers, as a start up company we would never have gotten even a glance in our direction from the Walmart buyers. This contest changes everything.

Solar Eclipz, a Los Angeles, CA – based woman-owned start up announced today that it has entered Walmart’s Get On The Shelf contest in hopes of getting the patented ezShade on the shelves of Walmart.

Solar Eclipz manufactures the ezShade which is the only portable sun shield that blocks over 99% of cancer causing UVA and UVB rays and instantly attaches to any portable umbrella or canopy. Linda Varga has come up with a clever portable sun shield that helps to block reflected UV rays and instantly attaches to any portable umbrella or canopy. “By adding a vertical panel to your umbrella, you are able to block the reflected UV rays that your umbrella or canopy alone cannot,” explains Linda Varga. The ezShade attaches in seconds with the included peel and stick strips and provides critical protection for a product weighing less than 9 ounces. “I designed the bottom pocket with hook and loop fasteners so that the ezShade could be easily adjusted to the height of your umbrella or canopy. Once you adjust the pocket, you fill the pocket with sand, water bottles or towels to keep your ezShade from blowing in the wind and to stabilize your umbrella or canopy,” said Linda. The ezShade can be used anywhere sun protection is needed, such as the beach, park, sporting events, school, swap meets, open-air markets, etc. The ezShade is endorsed by the Melanoma International Foundation.

When asked what entering Walmart’s contest means to her, Linda enthusiastically replied, “This is an opportunity we could have only dreamed of. We are a start up company with very limited resources. While the ezShade is a great product and a great fit with Walmart’s customers, as a start up company we would never have gotten even a glance in our direction from the Walmart buyers. This contest changes everything.” Walmart’s Get On The Shelf contest will not only give small businesses, such as Solar Eclipz, the opportunity to sell their products at Walmart, but Walmart will help the winners meet the production demands of selling in Walmart. “In the past Solar Eclipz’s production limitations would have prevented us from selling the ezShade in Walmart. With Walmart’s assistance, limited production capabilities would no longer be an obstacle for Solar Eclipz,” said Linda Varga.

Like most small businesses, Linda and her husband Alex juggle family and full time jobs in addition to their start up, Solar Eclipz. “Solar Eclipz is your old fashioned mom and pop start up. My husband and I work our day jobs and fit in Solar Eclipz business during evenings and on weekends,” says Linda. But for a small grant from Kimberly Clark’s Huggies’ Mominspired Grant Program, Solar Eclipz is self-funded. “Selling to Walmart would mean we could invest our time in one job, Solar Eclipz, instead of having to split our man and brain-power between two full time jobs. ”
