Online Travel Service Valadoo Flying High in 2012

Business has been good for the new Indonesia travel start-up, Valadoo, which reported a 300% increase in order inquiries in Q2 2012 and 500% growth in sales in the past three months.

Valadoo, an Indonesian digital startup that offers cheap holiday package, is growing at super speed, with traffic to the website up nearly 50 percent over the first six months of 2012. For the second quarter, this was more than 160,000 visitors.

“The growth of our business has been phenomenal. We started this business to encourage people to travel more and enjoy their life, and it's really happening,” said CEO and co-founder Jaka Wiradisuria. “We have even had a more than 300 percent increase in order inquiries in the second quarter, and 500 percent growth in sales in the past three months.”

Valadoo is a homegrown social commerce website that provides a one-stop solution for holiday seekers looking for either a weekend getaway or longer holidays, with exclusive offers and affordable prices. The main strength of Valadoo lies in the insider access towards a great selection of Indonesia’s popular destinations.

Valadoo is one of the great success stories of the dynamic growth happening in the domestic travel scene. This is part of the broader growth of the services sector, which is predicted to grow at a rate of more than 7 percent this year. This exceeds GDP growth of around 6.1 percent.

In a survey conducted by Valadoo last year into people’s travel habits, it was found that Indonesians were becoming more receptive to making online purchases when it came to travel plans, particularly after conducting online research. “We know that more and more Indonesians are starting to shop online, though the preferred method of payment is still offline, with bank transfers more popular than credit card purchases,” Jaka said.

Valadoo has also been attracting international interest and investment. Last month, Wego, one of the world’s most comprehensive travel meta-search engines, made a strategic investment in Valadoo, reflecting the confidence it has in the company’s future.

Jaka says Valadoo keeps its customers in mind in everything it does, with the core objective being to make them happy. “Continuous improvements in customer service and developing a more intuitive website are just some of the changes we've made to create a better experience,” he said

Valadoo offers special travel packages that include accommodation, on-site activities and some flight/transport arrangements. Valadoo also provides a personalized service through its expert travel consultants, who help customers develop their perfect itinerary.

“If customers cannot find their holiday of choice on our website or blog, our consultants are ready to help them maximize their holiday experiences by sharing their vast travel knowledge and expert travel tips,” Jaka said.

Valadoo’s blog, Jelajah, not only provides invaluable travel tips but also special insights about specific destinations across nearly all of the country’s provinces and further abroad. Jelajah saw a 265 percent increase in traffic during the first half of the year, which reflect the consumer’s interest in the travel knowledge provided by Valadoo.

Valadoo focuses on Indonesian destinations with almost 75% of its portfolio consisting of popular holiday spots such as Bali and Lombok, and trending destinations such as Karimunjawa, Pulau Derawan and Raja Ampat.
