The 2012 EurAupair Au Pair of the Year award was given to Laura from Germany, earlier this year. Laura spent her program year in Florence, Kentucky with her host family. Leaving Germany for her big adventure to the United States was “the most exciting day in my entire life”, Laura said. Being an au pair in the United States made “a dream came true” for Laura. She recalls first meeting her host family at the airport where she was greeted by them with a big yellow sign saying “Welcome Home, Laura”, cards, balloons and a cake when she arrived home. From the moment she arrived, Laura became an integral part of her host family and was treated like a family member.
In an excerpt for Laura’s personal essay detailing her EurAupair experience, she wrote:
“I can't tell how happy I am that I found my American home here and some special friends. I never expected this one year to be as amazing as it was. I'm thankful to my host parents who let me be part of their family, to my sweet siblings who treated me like a real sister, to my friend who made the week in NYC just awesome. All together it was an exceptional time that I enjoyed endlessly, in five words: The time of my life!”
