Q1Medicare.com now offers their updated 2012 PDP-Planner designed to help seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries estimate their 2012 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan costs. The PDP-Planner is simple to use and illustrates how prescription drug costs change throughout the year and through the different phases of a Medicare Part D plan. The 2012 PDP-Planner is offered free to all Q1Medicare.com users and found directly at: PDP-Planner.com/2012.

It is our hope that the 2012 PDP-Planner will help Medicare Part D beneficiaries prepare now for their prescription spending during the various phases of next year’s Part D plan coverage.

Q1Medicare.com now provides an updated 2012 version of their PDP-Planner or Donut Hole Calculator designed to help seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries estimate the cost of their 2012 Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage and plan for their prescription spending throughout the year. The 2012 PDP-Planner can be found directly at: PDP-Planner.com/2012.

The PDP-Planner is an easy to use tool designed so seniors can visualize how they could potentially move through their 2012 Medicare Part D plan coverage from the initial deductible (if applicable), into their initial coverage phase, through the coverage gap or Donut Hole, and maybe even into the catastrophic coverage portion of their Medicare Part D plan. An example of the 2012 PDP-Planner in action, for someone with high monthly prescription costs, can be found at: Q1Medicare.com/PDP-PlannerExample/2012.

The 2012 PDP-Planner tool or Donut Hole Calculator is based on the 2012 Defined Standard Medicare Part D prescription drug plan benefit parameters and a Medicare beneficiary’s estimated retail drug costs. In addition, the 2012 PDP-Planner also allows people to change the standard 2012 parameters, entering their desired initial deductible and monthly Part D plan premiums, to better estimate how their Medicare Part D plan costs will change throughout 2012.

Since the 2012 Donut Hole discount will not affect when a Medicare beneficiary leaves their Donut Hole or coverage gap, the Donut Hole discount is not included in the initial chart and instead, a table below the monthly chart shows possible prescription drug savings based on either name-brand or generic medication purchases while the person is in the 2012 Donut Hole. In this way, the user of the PDP-Planner can get an idea of the cost savings if they use more generic or name-brand medications.

“Unfortunately, even with over five years of experience, we are finding that many people are still having difficulty understanding the timing of the coverage provided by their Medicare Part D plans,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, Technical Director and co-founder of Q1Group LLC. “It is our hope that the 2012 PDP-Planner will help Medicare Part D beneficiaries prepare now for their prescription spending during the various phases of next year’s Part D plan coverage.”

The Q1Medicare.com PDP-Planner is available to everyone at no cost. The results of the PDP-Planner can be sent directly to an eMail account, printed, or viewed online. The PDP-Planner is also available for the current 2011 Medicare Part D plan year, as well as all historical years starting with 2006.
