Q1Medicare.com now offers an online tool designed to help long-term care admissions and nursing staff assist residents with choosing a Medicare prescription drug plan, while also acting as a resource for prescribers who want to quickly get an overview of the medications covered by a resident’s drug plan formulary. The tool includes state-specific charts listing drug usage management restrictions for each medication and is integrated with other Q1Medicare.com tools allowing users to access each Medicare plan’s full online formulary or compare coverage details for a particular medication across all Medicare plans in the service area.

We hope that the admissions staff of other LTC facilities will also benefit from our new LTC drug tool and we welcome suggestions for updates.

Q1Medicare has released their long-term care (LTC) drug search tool designed to help long-term care admissions and nursing staff assist residents with choosing a Medicare prescription drug plan, while also acting as a resource for prescribers who want to quickly get an overview of the medications covered by a resident’s Medicare drug plan formulary.

The newly launched LTC drug tool cross-references over 150 of the most popular brand-name and generic medications used by LTC facilities with the available Medicare Part D prescription drug plans qualifying for the low-income subsidy $0 premium and institutional Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (SNPs). Depending on the service area, the number of Medicare plans meeting either of these criteria can range from three to over 20 plans. The LTC drug search tool is updated regularly as new medications are introduced or when Medicare plans change their formularies.

“Our online LTC drug tool was designed in partnership with a long-term care facility that was seeking an efficient way to help residents find a qualifying Medicare plan that best meets their prescription needs,” notes Dr. Susan Johnson, co-founder and technical director of the Q1Medicare.com site. “We hope that the admissions staff of other LTC facilities will also benefit from our new LTC drug tool and we welcome suggestions for updates.”

To begin using the LTC drug tool, site visitors can simply select their state and get an overview of drug coverage for all qualifying Medicare Part D plans and institutional Special Needs Plans in their area. Drug usage management restrictions, such as quantity limits or step therapy requirements are shown with text and color-coding for each prescription drug and Medicare plan combination. Users will find that the LTC charts are interactive with direct links to each Medicare Part D prescription drug plan’s complete online formulary, as well as plan features and plan contact information. By clicking on the drug names in the chart, users can also see a specific drug’s detailed coverage information for all Medicare plans in the chosen service area.

The long-term care drug plan overviews can be found directly at Q1Medicare.com/LTC or a state abbreviation can be added to this URL to go directly to that service area. For example, the LTC drug tool for Florida can be found at: Q1Medicare.com/LTC/FL. Like other Q1Medicare tools, the long-term care drug tool is available at no cost to all Q1Medicare site visitors and is designed to work on PC, smartphone, and tablet platforms.

Q1Medicare.com reminds seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries that they can add, drop, or change their 2013 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or Medicare Advantage plan membership during the annual Open Enrollment Period that begins on Monday, October 15 and continues through Friday, December 7, 2012.
