Jensen Precast Introduces Verti-Set™ Box Culvert – A New Monolithic Box Culvert Design That Can Be Set With The Speed Of Cantilever Wall Box Culvert

The engineers at Jensen Precast have developed a new “No Tug” style of precast concrete monolithic box culvert that is set vertically allowing for faster installation and cleaner joints. See the video on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JupFXHT-HfQ

We think Verti-Set™ Box Culvert will become the design of choice when choosing monolithic box culvert.

Sparks, NV (PRWEB) June 27, 2012

For decades reinforced precast concrete box culvert has been used in infrastructure construction for applications such as intakes, outtakes, holding tanks, steam tunnels, corridor links, road crossings, service tunnels, utility trenches, conveyor tunnels, drainage culverts, environmental encasements, and cattle/wildlife crossings.

Traditionally, four-sided monolithic box culvert has been the standard in the industry. However, installation is tedious and time consuming because setting the pieces requires tugging the joints together with a pulley system. The “tug up” operation frequently drags sub-grade materials into the joint. These materials can compromise the sealant and leave large joint gaps which allow infiltration of water as well as the bedding materials.

To combat the challenges of monolithic box culvert installation, Jensen Precast made a commitment in 2003 to produce a style of cantilever wall box culvert. Cantilever wall box culvert is three-sided with a bottom and two sides. The top is cast separately and put into place after the base structure in installed. The three-sided design allows for the culvert to be installed vertically and dropped into place, rather than tugged. Not only does cantilever wall box culvert save numerous hours in the field, it also provides cleaner, tighter joints with significantly lower chances of infiltration.

“Many of our customers switched from traditional four-sided monolithic box culvert to cantilever wall after we introduced it in our area,” said Rusty Stever, Senior Vice President of Jensen Precast. “But there is still a large demand for monolithic box culvert.”

Always innovators in the precast concrete field, today Jensen Precast introduced their new patent pending [Verti-Set™ Box Culvert– a four-sided vertically set monolithic box culvert which offers a cost effective, time saving solution eliminating the need for tugging.

“The design of our Verti-Set™ box culvert combines the best of both worlds – monolithic and cantilever wall,” said Don Jensen, Founder and CEO of Jensen Precast. ”Since it is set vertically, installation is a lot faster, and the joints are tighter and cleaner than those of traditional monolithic box culvert.”

“Our first Verti-Set™ job is currently being installed by Western States Contracting for the City of North Las Vegas,” said Stever. “The Simmons Street Improvements job includes 2,354 feet of Verti-Set™ Box Culvert in various of sizes ranging from 8’ x 6’ to 10’ x 6’.”

Verti-Set™ Box Culvert is available in spans from 4’ to 12’ and heights from 4’ to 12’ making it adaptable to just about every application where box culvert is specified.

“We’ve shared the design with some of our customers and their reactions have been very positive,” added Jensen. “We think Verti-Set™ Box Culvert will become the design of choice when choosing monolithic box culvert.”
