Burg Simpson is pleased to announce that associate Reeves D. Whalen has been honored by the American Constitution Society with the 2012 Progressive Young Leadership Award. The Colorado Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society celebrated Top Colorado Legal Stars at their 2012 awards ceremony.

The American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS), founded in 2001, is one of the nation's leading progressive legal organizations with student chapters at more than 186 law schools around the country and lawyer chapters in more than thirty cities. Upon announcing this year’s award recipients, ACS President Juan Villasenor said, “Reeves Whalen has built a strong reputation as a leading plaintiff’s attorney and community rights advocate in Colorado.”

The ceremony attracted a large number of Colorado attorneys, community leaders and elected officials. Other recipients of this year's awards included former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. On Mr. Whalen’s accomplishments, Governor Ritter said, “Reeves has proven himself as a talented attorney and strong community leader in Denver."

Also in attendance was Colorado State Representative and current Deputy Minority Whip, Dan Pabon (HD4). Representative Pabon commented, "Reeves is a strong leader in Denver and deserves this ACS recognition."

Mr. Whalen is an accomplished Colorado attorney representing injured victims and consumers. In less than four years of practice, he has been recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyer Rising Star, Denver Business Journal "Forty Under 40", National Trial Lawyers "40 Under 40", and as a Finalist for the Colorado Bar Association’s Young Attorney of the Year.

Mr. Whalen has served on Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s Transition Team as the Co-Chair for the Department of Excise & License and was appointed by Denver Public Schools Superintendent Tom Boasberg to the Citizen Planning Advisory Committee (CPAC). Mr. Whalen is a member of the Clinton Foundation Millennium Network and President Obama's Gen44 Colorado Campaign Finance Committee. He previously sat on the Executive Committee for the Democratic Party of Denver (DPoD) and currently serves on the board of directors for the Girl's Athletic Leadership School (GALS) and the AMC Cancer Fund.
