East Greenbush, N.Y. (PRWEB) September 20, 2012
The Center for Internet Security (CIS), a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving cyber security in the public and private sectors, today announced new partnerships that will help state and local governments, the public education sector and not-for-profits (Partners) improve their security posture by implementing cost-effective solutions to defend against some of the most critical cyber security threats and vulnerabilities. CIS is partnering with NetLib, Rocky Mountain RAM, Duo Security and LabTech to provide significantly discounted purchasing opportunities on a broad array of products and services that range from the foundations of data and device encryption, to two-factor authentication that can be accessed by a mobile device. The discounts are being offered through the CIS Trusted Purchasing Alliance. Company and product choices were selected by CIS with input from a product review board comprising representatives from CIS Partner organizations.
“The basics of security protections, combined with new, cutting-edge solutions, are critical components of a strong, defense-in-depth approach, and these purchasing agreements offer both. We strive to find the right companies and products that meet the needs of our Partners, engaging companies that have been staples in the industry as well as new businesses,” said William F. Pelgrin, CIS President and CEO. “We are pleased to join forces with NetLib, Rocky Mountain RAM, Duo Security and LabTech to bring a comprehensive suite of purchasing opportunities that will help our Partners address crucial cyber challenges in an affordable way.”
The products offered through these four partnerships provide a well-rounded set of solutions that meet a number of recommended strategies identified as industry best practices, such as those outlined in the SANS Top 20 Critical Security Controls and the Australian Government Defense Signals Directorate, two leading security guides.
According to the 2012 Verizon Data Breach report, 94 percent of data compromised in breaches resulted from database servers. In order to help organizations address this, CIS is partnering with NetLib to offer a discount on the NetLib Encryptionizer, a FIPS 140-2 validated whole database encryption software. The CIS-NetLib partnership allows state and local governments, public education entities and not-for-profits to purchase the NetLib Encryptionizer at a 78 percent discount. The current discount offering is available through October 31, 2012.
"Our partnership with CIS underscores the growing importance for tackling the critical business issue today: protecting sensitive data," stated Neil Weicher, Founder and CTO, NetLib. "With extensive experience in the government sector and a dedicated team of highly skilled engineers, NetLib has been at the forefront of data protection for more than two decades. We are thrilled to be able to offer affordable solutions to help CIS partners improve their data security effectiveness."
More than 20 million records were involved in data breaches since 2010 as a result of lost or stolen portable devices—such as hard drives and USB flash drives—according to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse. Securing the data contained on portable devices is a key strategy in preventing their unauthorized access. To that end, CIS is partnering with Rocky Mountain RAM, a small woman-owned manufacturer and distributor, to provide discounts on a selection of critical encryption products, including self-encrypting hard drives and flash drives. Rocky Mountain RAM products were one of only two hardware product lines to gain DOD approval. This opportunity allows state and local governments, not-for-profit entities and public education institutions the ability to purchase important encryption hardware products at one percent over cost. The current discount offering is available through November 30, 2012.
“Rocky Mountain RAM is very excited to be a part of this Consortium opportunity to help make the most of IT funding dollars. Our products have been widely used and accepted in the tightest of information assurance environments. We look forward to working with each and every customer, and starting back in 1995, it has been our mission to provide ease of purchase and excellent customer service, while maintaining the highest quality secure products,” Lisa Schaeffer, CEO, Rocky Mountain RAM.
Data breaches occurring as a result of weak passwords continue to increase, with several recent high-profile breaches bringing heightened attention to the issue. Two-factor authentication is a key component in a multi-layer defense strategy to help defend against unauthorized access. CIS is partnering with Duo Security to offer discounted purchasing for Duo Security’s two-factor authentication service, which provides authentication via a user’s mobile device or landline phone. Duo Security meets federal and industry regulations—such as NIST and PCI—for strong authentication. The current discount offering is available through December 15, 2012.
"Duo is proud to partner with the Trusted Purchasing Alliance to protect state, local, and tribal governments with strong, usable, and affordable two-factor authentication. Our goal of democratizing strong security solutions at scale aligns with the public service mission of the Alliance,” said Dug Song, Duo's CEO and co-founder.
CIS is partnering with LabTech to provide access to the LabTech Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) Suite that enables organizations to more efficiently and effectively manage their infrastructure. RMM tools assist organizations in detecting issues, such as viruses and allowing technicians to eliminate them from a remote location with minimal impact on users. Additionally, through its partnership with CIS, LabTech will offer discounted pricing for its Mobile Device Management tool, which can assist organizations in enforcing policies, defining passcodes, and managing configuration settings. Recognizing that enterprises are using mobile devices in their daily operations, and many are using a “Bring Your Own Device” policy to reduce cost, the ability to manage device security is crucial. These discount offerings will be available beginning October 1, 2012.
“By partnering with CIS, we are able to extend the reach of our innovative solutions and services to those in the government sector who are looking to leverage the power of automation to solve their most-pressing IT challenges. And with the special pricing currently being offered to CIS members, we are ensuring that an already-affordable solution remains even more so to these governmental agencies,” said Matt Nachtrab, LabTech Software CEO.
“We thank NetLib, Rocky Mountain RAM, Duo Security and LabTech for their commitment to serving the greater good and working with us to help give our partners new options for security products and services that will help them strengthen their defenses against the threats they face every day,” said Kristin Judge, Executive Director of the Trusted Purchasing Alliance.
