Military Spouse magazine announced that voting is open for the branch winners of the fifth annual Armed Forces Insurance's Military Spouse of the Year presented by Military Spouse magazine. Every American is invited to learn more about the 30 finalists at http://www.milspouse.com/msoy and encouraged to cast his or her vote.

The MSOY epitomizes military spouses’ important contributions and unwavering commitment to the military community. With the additional focus on military families’ work this year from the White House’s “Joining Forces” initiative, Americans are learning more about and honoring those who also serve at home.

The first round of voting, open through February 3, will determine the winner from each branch of service: Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Air Force and, for the first time this year, the National Guard.

Five superb candidates from each service branch emerged from the several hundred nominees. Once the branch winners are chosen, a subsequent vote will begin on February 14 to identify one overall winner as the 2012 Military Spouse of the Year.

The overall 2012 MSOY winner will be announced at the fifth annual MSOY Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. The ceremony will be held on May 10 at 8th & I, the U.S. Marine Corps’ oldest active post, home of General Amos, Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, and the historic site of the Marine Corps’ evening parades. In 2011, the MSOY Awards were honored by the attendance of Senator Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), Senator Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wa.), Medal of Honor Recipient Major Drew Dix and the spouses of all 10 senior officers and senior enlisted in every service branch.

“Each year since its inception, the MSOY program has garnered increased interest and support. This year, indicative of the unwavering devotion and assistance of military spouses, commands worldwide submitted the largest volume of nominees to date,” said Armed Forces Insurance chairman, Lieutenant General Garry L. Parks, (U.S. Marine Corps, Ret.). “Armed Forces Insurance is proud to recognize and honor their selfless spirit, dedication and myriad contributions.”

“We encourage the military community, as well as all Americans, to find out more about these amazing individuals,” says Babette Maxwell, Navy spouse and founder of the award.
