Ellis Medicine’s bariatrics campaign focuses on more than just weight loss

Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol - these are all health conditions that can be remedied through weight loss surgery. A new campaign for Ellis Medicine’s bariatric surgery program, developed by healthcare marketing agency Smith & Jones, focuses on overcoming these chronic health problems, rather than placing the weight on the cosmetic benefits of gastric bypass surgery.

Titled Weight Loss Surgery Conversations, the campaign features interviews with three bariatric patients: Jeff Cox, Paul Kass, and Kelley Taylor. In their interviews, these patients discuss what led them to have bariatric surgery, their experience with Ellis, and everything they’ve gained since they lost the weight.

“Before I had the procedure, to mow my lawn would take me two and a half to three hours,” said Jeff Cox. “Now I can do it in about an hour because I have a lot more energy.... My life is just so much better than it was.”

For Paul Kass, it was his wife’s concerns about his health conditions – including type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure– that motivated him to attend one of Ellis’ weight loss seminars. His health improved immediately after the surgery.

“With bariatric surgery, I just lost my diabetes the same day in the hospital,” said Paul Kass. “A couple hours later, I was cured. It’s made a tremendous change in me. I’m going to be 60 years old and I feel like I did when I was 30.”

The bariatric surgery campaign aims to demonstrate how Ellis is “reinventing healthcare one patient at a time.” It is the fourth service line campaign to launch this year for the hospital system and utilizes web videos, print ads, banner ads and search engine marketing.
