Tax Extension

American taxpayers hoped the combination of IRS delays and sequester cuts that impacted IRS resources would push the April 15th deadline back in these tough tax times. To taxpayers’ dismay, however, the IRS has announced that they would hold the line on Tax Day. As a result, this year’s abbreviated tax season only had about 10 weeks between the time e-file opened until the April 15 deadline. This shortened filing window placed taxpayers in an even bigger time crunch to complete their taxes. Fortunately, eSmart Tax has an incredible deal for taxpayers that need extra time to file. For the first time in eSmart Tax history, the online tax preparation company is offering no-cost extension filing for everyone.

This complimentary extension filing solution (a $9.95 value) allows taxpayers to request six more months to file their taxes. By requesting a tax filing extension through a special page on eSmart Tax’s website, taxpayers may have until October 15, 2013 to submit their federal tax returns.

“This tax season, taxpayers encountered plenty of frustration due to the unexpected changes and delays,” comments Paul Walters, eSmart Tax’s Marketing Director. “We decided to respond by upholding our reputation of putting customers first and offering relief with this never-before-seen deal on extensions. While our process for filing a Form 4868 has always been simple and quick, it’s even more appealing now because it’s free.”

eSmart Tax’s straightforward interface makes it easy for taxpayers to take all the necessary steps to apply for a 6-month extension. The step-by-step process guides taxpayers through the process of completing IRS Form 4868 - Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File U.S. Individual Income Tax Return.

Details for Extensions as an Individual:

  •     To qualify, users must complete and file an extension by April 15th.
  •     Using eSmart Tax, taxpayers have the option to file Form 4868 electronically or print and mail the form.
  •     Form 4868 does not extend the time to pay taxes. All tax liability is due to the IRS by April 15th. Any unpaid tax liability may be subject to interest and penalties charges from the IRS. Taxpayers that cannot pay any or all of the tax liability by April 15 may need to contact the IRS about Form 9465, Installment Agreement Request.
  •     Taxpayers do not have to give a reason for the extension. The IRS will contact the taxpayer if the request is denied.
