Colorful glass tile block showers and decorative wall surrounds are the answer to a bland, run-of-the mill bathroom. Gone are the days of few choices for glass blocks and basic colors for the shower. The sky is now the trendy limit for these designs that are design-forward, beautiful and durable.

Some of those newer-and-improved choices include glass tile blocks fused onto the shower wall. Each glass tile is hand crafted, featuring a multitude of colors and sizes in each unit, then fused onto the glass blocks for an upscale and very unique look. In addition, different patterns and colors of glass blocks are now available. It used to be that wavy and clear patterns seemed to be the short list of choices for glass block shower walls. There are now more than 104 different frosted and colored glass blocks to choose from, providing a homeowner with a wide menu of options to allow them to customize to their specific taste.

There are also functional improvements to consider. Historically, glass block walls only came in 4” thick units. This allows for a sturdy product, but is more expensive to manufacture and adds weight. Now, lighter, easier to install and less expensive 3 1/8” thick glass blocks are also available. One of the most difficult things about a glass block shower wall installation is making sure the base matches up with the glass block sections. This challenge can now be eliminated with the introduction of custom made, ready-for-tile bases.

Many people love the look of natural stone – but cost and the potential maintenance concerns keep them away.
