The North Carolina Wildlife Resource officials have been renovating the aging Sutton Lake boating facilities for several months per StarNews Online. However, a mixed reception to the changes from boaters attending the new ramp’s opening weekend prompted Used Boat Trailers to encourage the NCWR to consider further renovations.
The Sutton Lake boating access area was reopened on February 28th, and its opening weekend saw massive crowds as anglers, eager to enjoy the new facilities, flocked to the site. Unfortunately, the reception was not entirely positive.
The staff of Used Boat Trailers encourages the NCWR to listen to the criticisms, and give the people the adequate facilities they ask for. According to UBT, the majority of complaints were regarding the inadequately sized parking lot, largely due to the new fences that separate spaces, as well as its unpaved, gravel surface. Vehicles towing boat trailers filled the lot opening weekend, and many had to resort to roadside parking far away from the boat loading area.
Sutton Lake, which is used to provide cool water for Duke Energy Plant, sees fairly heavy use during the spring, summer, and fall; and the staff at UBT doesn’t believe that a paved, expanded parking area is too much to ask. Even with the smaller, gravel parking area, the lot is expected to fill during the weekend’s prime fishing hours.
The mixed reception of the changes to the Sutton Lake boat access area might be worrying the NCWR officials in charge of the facilities, but Used Boat Trailers believe the concerns can be alleviated with a few small, fast changes, and they encourage the NCWR to continue improving the boat ramps.
