Even though Samoa and Christmas Island rang in the New Year 14 hours ahead of GMT (London time), it was 11 hours after London time that the Westernmost region of our world celebrated the onset of 2013.
Over the world’s 25 hours of New Year joy, more than one billion people made resolutions to become healthier in 2013. This is extrapolated directly from a study by Dr. John C. Norcross at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania (source: http://men.webmd.com/features/5-healthy-new-years-resolutions-for-men) which revealed that at least 40% of adults make annual resolutions, two-thirds of which address unhealthy behaviors.
While weight targets and goals to quit smoking have carried through decades, newer and popular resolutions include getting more sleep and decreasing stress. Interestingly, a study of effects of sleep and stress relates the newer resolutions to the more traditional ones. A lack of sleep may cause obesity or Type II diabetes; chronic stress may yield insomnia, depression, obesity and heart disease.
Luckily for resolutionners of increasing sleep hours or decreasing stress, these well-defined health goals may just be achievable, thanks to the vitamins industry which caters to the needs of today’s people – individuals with little time but great health resolutions.
Popular health club, Smart Vitamin Club offers supplements that aid both Sleep and Stress (the latter is found to best tackled by the Energy formula, though Mood is a close second). Smart Vitamin Club asserts that maintaining a schedule to take ones vitamins or health supplements is much simpler a solution than traditional resolutionners’ plight (joining gyms, teatotaling).
The clichéd gym goals are still a plenty, but unfortunately, it is not just a joke that by February gym attendances always drop; it is a statistic.
While resolutions hold a reputation of being broken within weeks due to overly ambitious weight targets or all-or-nothing smoking goals, Smart Vitamin Club health expert, Eitan hopes its plethora of vitamins and health supplements will render New Years resolutions achievable and successful – all the way through December.
