At least 85 people were injured after a Seastreak ferry carrying 326 passengers slammed into a Lower Manhattan pier, according to a Jan. 9 CNN report. Investigators are looking into a number of possible causes including high speed, the article states.

Even as a team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the crash, witnesses told U.S. Coast Guard officials that the ferry seemed to be traveling at a high rate of speed as it got close to the pier. Officials estimate that the Seastreak ferry was traveling at about 14 knots or 16 mph at the time of the collision, the article states. The ferry provides daily service between Atlantic Highlands and Highlands in New Jersey to piers in Lower Manhattan, the report states.
