Here’s a new kind of sleuth with an ecological bent and an unlikely sidekick
Charleston, SC and Ashville, NC (PRWEB) January 02, 2013
Local author and Dewees Island resident, Dershie McDevitt, released her first novel on December 16, 2012. Just Holler Bloody Murder draws on Ms. McDevitt’s unique passion for Charleston’s barrier islands. Set on an island very much like Dewees, the novel takes the reader to a world where murder and mystery mix (along with hints of romance) to create a highly entertaining and slightly quirky read. The story is full of wonder, desire and intrigue.
Just Holler Bloody Murder follows Callahan Banks as she returns to her beloved Timicau Island near Charleston, South Carolina, to settle her mother’s estate. Her grief is compounded by Pepper Dade’s plans to develop the island and destroy the only home she’s ever known. When the body of a bikini-clad blonde washes up on shore, Callahan is roped into a web of intrigue that forces her to question everything she thought she knew about her own life. Struggling against her attraction to Pepper, who, Callahan suspects may be involved in the blonde’s mysterious death, Callahan ignores her misgivings until her nine-year-old sidekick, Harry Applegate, suddenly and inexplicably disappears. Now Callahan must muster all her knowledge as a naturalist and a tracker to find the little boy before it’s too late.
Already, Just Holler Bloody Murder has earned some high praise “Here’s a new kind of sleuth with an ecological bent and an unlikely sidekick – a sometimes tense, sometimes funny murder mystery with a touch of romance,” says P.B. Parris, author of Waltzing in the Attic and His Arms are Full of Broken Things.
Just Holler Bloody Murder, was released on December 17, 2012 and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. It can be purchased on Amazon.com and at local book stores. Dershie McDevitt lives outside of Asheville, North Carolina with two Wheaten Terriers and her first and second husbands, which works out well because she’s had the good fortune (he says) to marry the same man twice. The McDevitts own a vacation home on Dewees Island, off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina, where they live in close proximity to a fourteen foot alligator and enjoy him and many more of the natural wonders the island has to offer.
