Fears among physicians continue to increase as administrative demands skyrocket and reimbursements dwindle.
(PRWEB) January 07, 2013
Of over two thousand physicians surveyed by the American Medical Association, 87% report that they are stressed every day. The physicians site the struggling economy, health system reform, and changing policies mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as the top causes of stress. According to the president of DoctorsManagement, fears among physicians continue to increase as administrative demands skyrocket and reimbursements dwindle. To meet the increase in demand for services, the medical practice consulting firm has expanded its team. The firm recently hired Sean Weiss, former Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of DecisionHealth Professional Services, and David Miller, former President of MAG Mutual Healthcare Solutions, a subsidiary of physician-owned MAG Mutual Insurance Company.
While the physician’s primary focus, as well as that of the staff, is on delivering quality patient care, the entire exercise of running a medical practice becomes a juggling act in which any ball dropped could lead to disaster. Every aspect is critical, and there are many. There is management of patient care, government compliance, human resources, cost containment, and billing, coding and documentation. Adding to the pressure, the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced in November that they expect $6.9 billion in recovered fraud, waste and abuse dollars by year-end 2012, and that they will continue their stringent investigations into 2013.
More than ever, medical practices are seeking help with reducing their risk of non-compliance with the regulations mandated by government and private-payor insurance companies. “I’m not surprised by the increase in demand for assistance, given the challenges in today’s healthcare arena,” says Paul King, President of DoctorsManagement. “Physicians, specialists and practice managers are inundated and don’t have time to become experts in every aspect of practice management. Providers and their staff simply want relief from the mounting pressure and we are continually building our firm to respond to the increases in demand.”
Sean Weiss joins the firm as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer. Weiss is recognized as an expert in compliance and has a proven history of helping large and small healthcare organizations maintain compliance and profitability - despite today’s binding regulations. He has held executive level positions with some of the industry's largest and most respected organizations. He has also served on the Ethics and Compliance Steering Committee at Columbia/HCA that developed policies and procedures to help decipher complex regulatory issues.
Also joining the firm is David Miller, who spent six years as the president of a subsidiary of a large, physician-owned insurance company. With a proven history of guiding struggling healthcare organizations into profitability, Miller helps new clients regain control of practice procedures to improve profits. With a finger on the pulse of local, regional and national healthcare issues, Miller helps ease the stress providers and their managers feel as a result of the current healthcare climate.
“DoctorsManagement is honored to add Sean Weiss and David Miller to its team of healthcare experts,” states King. “It is part of our on-going commitment to assist physicians through today’s unsettled economic climate and the challenges of healthcare reform.”
