On January 1, Michael Mills discusses how he discovered his purpose in a recent Spartan Race blog. Michael reached out to three individuals seeking their purpose in life which in turn helped him to discover his goal to complete a Spartan Race.

According to the Spartan Race blog, Michael Mills reached out to individuals within the Spartan Race community to find out their purpose and what makes them “[put] their body through so much torture day in and day out.” The first individual Michael reached was Hobie Calls, a man who achieved multiple first place medals throughout 2012. Hobie stated, “My driving force is to encourage others to live healthier and never give up. Where that comes from, I don’t know.”

The second individual Michael asked about their purpose was Spartan Ella Anne Kociuba. The blog stated her drive was like a fire, metaphorically growing because of its surroundings and destroying anything that was in the way. She continued to explain how the exhaustion of reaching for her dreams drove her to define her odds day in and day out, understanding that hard work and time would help her reach her goals. “Just know that it will happen if you make it happen.”

The third individual was Rob Baily, founder of FlagNorFail, who replied to Michael that his purpose involved always moving forward and to improve one’s self, hopefully inspiring others. These individuals and Michaels near death experience brought him to the realization of his purpose.

Michael, a Spartan representative responded, “My purpose became my life. My purpose became so important and that I knew I had to change… I started caring for myself again, I started caring about what went into my body because I knew if I didn’t, my life was over.” He continued, “While I train for my Spartan Race I am reminded daily, that Life is about Struggle, Life is about Challenges, Life is about obstacles and Life is about achievement and without a purpose and without a will to fight, Life can be the hardest challenge…”

Spartan Race encourages anyone up for a challenge or inspired by Michael’s journey to compete in a death race.
