Sparus Holdings, Inc. announced today that Ronald P. Bertasi has joined the company as chief executive officer and a board member. Mr. Bertasi will be responsible for overall management of the company and its four operating subsidiaries. Mr. Bertasi joins Sparus Holdings from Prometheus Energy Group, where he was CEO and a board member, and led the company’s rapid growth as it created the market for liquefied natural gas as an industrial fuel. Sean Durkin, currently president and CEO of Sparus, will return to the position of chief financial officer, a role he held from 2001 – 2010. Mr. Bertasi said, “I’m very excited to join Sean and the Sparus team. The company is well positioned for success across multiple markets.” Mr. Durkin said, “Ron brings a valuable set of experiences to Sparus, and I look forward to working with him to grow the company.”
Mr. Bertasi has 25 years of experience in the energy industry and related sectors. Prior to joining Prometheus, he was the founder and CEO of Mack Creek Energy, a developer of renewable power projects, and simultaneously served as an operating partner with Element Partners, a cleantech private equity firm. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, Mr. Bertasi spent seven years at Southern Company, where he served as president & CEO of Southern Company Energy Solutions, a full service provider of turnkey design/build energy projects, and as president & CEO of Southern Company Gas, a natural gas retailer in Georgia’s deregulated market. Prior to joining Southern, he worked as a management consultant in the energy group at Booz Allen Hamilton (since renamed Booz & Company) and began his career as a geologist, responsible for remediation of soil and groundwater at leaking underground storage tank sites.
Mr. Bertasi holds an MBA from Dartmouth's Tuck School, an MS in geology and geochemistry from UCLA, and a BA in geology from Colgate University.
