South African Airways has been awarded as ‘The Best Airline in Africa’ by US-based magazine Global Traveller. As reported by Bizcommunity, the South African flag carrier received its latest title during an official awards ceremony marking the end of the current year of consideration for airline rankings.
The award has been regarded as a token of diplomatic success for the African travel and tourism industry, as prominent officials hailing from federal as well as private backgrounds of national tourism and aviation were present at the ceremony. South African Airways also won the award for providing the "Best White Wine International Business Class".
Information available with the official website of South African Airways shows that the airline is currently operating a majority of Airbus aircraft in its fleet, which include A330 and A319 models along with multiple variants of the A340. In-flight entertainment systems provide films and electronic games while personal television viewing is also available on certain business class flights. The in-flight menu has been set with selected cuisines under the guidance of celebrity chefs hired under the airline’s panel, led by Chef Reuben Riffel and Chef Benny Masekwameng. South African Airways is also granted an honorary placement within the South African Chef’s Association, garnering support for optimal potential in providing customer services.
The TravelhouseUK news section reports that this will be the third certified accomplishment for the flag carrier of South Africa this year. Only this September, South African Airways was awarded the Best Airline under the annual travel awards ceremony organized by the South Africa Tour Operators Association (SATOA). It also claimed being the Leading Airline of Africa, as well as having the Best Customer Service in Africa under the Skytrax awards. Based in the UK, Skytrax has high prominence for evaluating international air carriers operating flights to London.
The Global Traveler Magazine evaluates international air carriers while focusing on business class and first class categories. The rankings are obtained from the reviews and voting cast by its reader base which consists of luxury and business travellers. Along with airlines, the magazine also brings forward the best airports and hotels serving the air travelling community.
South African Airways will also be shifting its flights in London Heathrow Airport from its current Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 by 2014. Terminal 2 is currently under construction, and will accommodate each airline stage by stage. The new terminal will be exclusively allocated to the airlines enlisted in the Star Alliance Network for smooth management of passengers catching connecting flights in the world’s busiest airport. South African Airways has been a member of the commercial aviation alliance since 2006.
TravelhouseUK facilitates major air routes operated under South African Airways. The agency has a specified focus for air routes connecting Africa and the United Kingdom. Seats available with South African Airways flights to Lilongwe, Mauritius, Maputo and Bulawayo count among bargain deals which can be booked with agents available online round the clock.
Victor Hunt, the Operations manager at TravelhouseUK, congratulated South African Airways for exceeding expectations of its passengers. “Voting and professional judgement spell the limelight over the efforts dedicated by airlines for service improvements” he said. “As for South African Airways, these awards will encourage the airline administration by showing that their effort does bear fruit in terms of reputational factors.”
