The Portsmouth High School Marching Band has been selected to represent Rhode Island in the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade on Monday, January 21, 2013 in Washington, DC.

“We are tremendously proud of this invitation from the Parade Committee and the opportunity to participate in this unique, American celebration. This event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our student musicians,” said Ted Rausch, Band Director.

Preliminary plans include the group traveling by motor coach to Washington on Sunday, January 20th, participating in Inauguration Day parade and activities on Monday, and returning to Rhode Island early on Tuesday morning. With just three weeks between receipt of invitation and the parade, logistical and funding plans are still coming together. Sponsorship opportunities will be available, and all donations to help defray student costs for the trip are greatly appreciated.
