“We are the first to look at safety beyond the status quo, because we understand the idea that word of mouth and a standard national criminal background check as a vetting process for a coach just doesn’t cut it anymore."

bookacoach announces it’s official launch of its online marketplace in the DC Metro area, aimed at connecting parents and athletes seeking private instruction with verified safe sports coaches.

Founded in September of 2011 by Kevin MacCauley, Myles Grote and Marcus Gross, bookacoach is an interactive web app marketplace that makes it easy for athletes and parents to find and book private sports lessons with local coaches, while empowering coaches with features to manage scheduling, lesson payments and much more.

“It’s our mission and number one priority to become the safest place to find quality coaches,” said Founder and CEO Kevin MacCauley. As a current little league coach in the Northwest DC Little League organization, Kevin recognized a disconnect between parents and coaches finding each other for private instruction and the lack of a thorough background check for coaches.

With the launch of bookacoach, Kevin and his team have designed a process that requires all coaches to undergo a rigorous background check, repeated annually. The process was developed with the guidance and support of local law enforcement. In addition to the safety policy, bookacoach has instituted a 3 Strike Policy that looks to encourage a fluid process by eliminating instruction no-shows, promoting ongoing athlete safety and to make life a little easier for all parties involved.

“We are the first to look at safety beyond the status quo, because we understand the idea that word of mouth and a standard national criminal background check as a vetting process for a coach just doesn’t cut it anymore,” says Kevin.

In addition to safety checks, among many features such as coach scheduling tools, lesson payment options and communication tools, bookacoach allows athletes and parents to rate and review coaches, a benefit to others researching coaches for their kids.

bookacoach encourages parents and athletes to tell their current coach network about bookacoach and to buy their next private lesson online. Coaches can apply online at bookacoach to become a BAC Certified Coach.

In addition to the three original founders of the company, the Board of Directors includes DC natives, Samuel Reid, President, Hope & Reid LLC, Thomas Fink and Brendan Sullivan, Founder & President of HeadFirst Camps.
