Medicaid is not expanding in all states like it is in Colorado. Gov. Hickenlooper recently disputed the Kaiser Health Foundation’s claim that it would cost $850 million to cover expanded Medicaid recipients.
He says it would actually cost $128 million because of the states’ policy for mitigating health care costs. And hospitals in Colorado are backing the governor saying that it means less people receiving health care and not paying for it.
But not all states see things the way Gov. Hickenlooper does.
Many states, like South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and more, will not expand their medicaid like Colorado is doing and those are the states where affordable health insurance coverage may be harder to find.
The implementation of the Affordable Care Act is hoping to see completion soon and it’s in the health insurance exchanges that states are aiming to make affordable plans available to consumers across the country so that those families who do not qualify for Medicaid, expanded or not, will be able to attain the coverage the law requires.
In addition to these exchanges and their options for non-Medicaid eligible families and individuals, sites like HealthCompare that empower consumers with side-by-side comparisons of health insurance policies, free health insurance quotes, and customer service that is second-to-none in the industry.
