Luminous nature-inspired images, including flowers, birds and trees, with transparent watercolors.
Maumee, Ohio (PRWEB) January 07, 2013
Every month, American Frame, a web-based custom framing and art printing company headquartered in Maumee, OH, features the work of an artist from their online art gallery on the home page of their website, http://www.americanframe.com. This month they honor watercolorist Missy Cowan from Chelsea Michigan. Cowan was selected from over 10,000 artists and photographers.
Creating luminous nature-inspired images, including flowers, birds and trees, with transparent watercolors, Cowan privileges color and pushes forward technique by experimentation with rice paper, wax as a resist and other strategies aimed at exploring texture. Her compositions are derived from the extensive flower garden in her backyard. Cowan is a member of the Michigan Watercolor Society, Ann Arbor Women Artists and the Chelsea Center for the Arts. One of her watercolors was a finalist in the Michigan Watercolor Society 2012 annual exhibition in Lansing. Her works have also been accepted in several AAWA juried shows.
The featured work, “Winter Bluebird,” is on display in a nature-inspired treatment that combines two mats—a winter white and a medium gray--with a moulding from American Frame’s Rustics collection, a family of solid-wood frames with weathered, grain-dominant finishes. The frame’s natural color pairs perfectly with Cowan’s frosted winter scene. To view all of Cowan’s work or purchase a reproduction, visit her online gallery.
