Loeb & Loeb LLP announced today that William J. Kramer has joined the firm’s Patent Litigation and Counseling Practice as a partner in the Chicago office. Most recently, he was a partner at Miller Matthias & Hull in Chicago, where he served as head of the Computer Science Department. Previously, he was a partner at Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP, where he led the Electrical Group and Finance Committee.
Kramer has a wide range of experience in intellectual property law, including litigation, opinion drafting, patent prosecution and licensing. With a broad knowledge of patentable subjects, including mechanical, biotechnology and green technology, Kramer has specialized expertise in computer software, cable television systems and cloud technologies, including financial products. Additionally, his finance background has aided him in prosecuting and litigating business process patents. He is active in rendering patentability, right-to-use, infringement and invalidity opinions, and he has created and managed large volumes of patent prosecution for a variety of clients, including large publicly traded companies and startups.

Kramer earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law, where he was the Coordinating Executive Editor of the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. He received his B.S. in Finance with high honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, and another bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Northwestern University. Kramer is also a member of Intellectual Property Organization’s Software and Business Process Sub-Committee.
