Rockville, MD, January 8, 2013 (PRWEB) January 08, 2013
FileTek, Inc., a leading global provider of large-scale data management, Big Data Storage virtualization, and active archive solutions, today announced that XOS Digital, the leading provider of digital asset management solutions, facility design/integration services, and digital coaching technologies for collegiate and professional sports organizations, deployed StorHouse® for Media and Entertainment as the production, backup, and archive repository for its vast footage of football and basketball media. XOS Digital utilizes footage stored in this repository for offerings such as licensable content, scouting video and highlight video for Web, Mobile and Connected-TV.
XOS Digital chose FileTek over other Big Data Storage vendors because StorHouse provides a unique, all-in-one production, backup, and archive solution on a single platform. XOS Digital transfers sports video to the StorHouse file system server disk layer for optimum retrieval performance. Once data is loaded to disk, StorHouse automatically creates a backup copy on tape for immediate recovery/access if a disk drive should fail and for long-term content protection, availability, and accessibility. A secondary copy of the video is also made to another tape, which is then stored off site for disaster recovery. Because of this full-service approach to data management, XOS can quickly retrieve any game or video in their multi-year repository.
Pete Balkus, Sr. Vice President Product Development, IT and Operations, at XOS Digital, remarked, “We chose StorHouse because it satisfies all our data storage, access and management needs. We can maintain current data on our SAN for fast access while seamlessly creating a backup copy on tape for immediate access should the need arise – all without IT intervention. StorHouse automation saves us backup cycles, eliminates the need to restore backup data from tape to disk prior to access, and reduces the number of routine system administration tasks – all while protecting our valuable digital assets for future generations to research, study, and enjoy.”
About StorHouse for Media and Entertainment
StorHouse for Media and Entertainment is large-scale storage virtualization and data management software specifically designed to store, access, back up, and protect very large volumes of new digital content and converted analog content generated by highly scalable and dynamic digital applications. As a hardware-independent, multi-functional software platform, StorHouse intelligently blends disk and tape as part of a scaled-out NAS environment while providing an intelligent data management strategy for Big Data. Because StorHouse abstracts hardware, users see a single unified global namespace rather than specific device types so that SSD, JBOD, RAID, MAID, and tape, including LTO varieties, all look like one unlimited storage pool. In addition, by storing data in native rather than proprietary file format, StorHouse eliminates the need for formal restore procedures. Instead, users have self-service access to StorHouse-managed data at any time without IT intervention. No application interfaces or changes to existing applications are required.
As a full-service production solution, StorHouse for Media and Entertainment provides unmatched data assurance and access at the lowest possible cost per terabyte of storage. Customers use it daily to overcome pre- and post-production challenges such as rapid video ingest/retrieval; high-performance content sharing by diverse transcoders/editors; and export, backup, and long-term preservation of raw, edited, and master digital content.
Gary Szukalski, President of FileTek, commented, “The StorHouse deployment at XOS Digital is another example of how StorHouse for Media and Entertainment can simplify managing the growing volume of digital data and converted analog content generated by the media and entertainment industry. StorHouse is cost-effective production software that simultaneously backs up and archives data on a single platform. It is a proven system that ensures long-term data integrity and “online, in time, every time” access to all digital content.”
