It is so encouraging to see the many activists for nutrition education in their own communities. These individuals are our motivation. They are passionate about what they do, and it inspires us to keep creating resources to make their jobs easier.

Throughout December, Learning ZoneXpress accepted nominations for nutrition education advocates across the country. Heather Winter of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (J.W.P) Public Schools was selected as this year’s winner for her work as Family Service Coordinator. Heather runs the Weekend Backpack Program at J.W.P., a program for low income families on free and reduced lunches. She also works with 60 pre K-6th graders. Colleagues say she’s always looking for ways she can help kids and feed families.

Maureen Lyons and Toni Meyer represented Learning ZoneXpress at a student assembly honoring Ms. Winter along with two other nominees from J.W.P., Cindy Steinberg, FACS teacher and Sonja Highum, school nurse. With great enthusiasm, they presented the award and prizes in front of many excited students.

“At Learning ZoneXpress we are always looking for schools or organizations that work to promote health and wellness for their students, staff, and community. We are pleased to reward nominees from Janesville Waldorf Pemberton School for their health improvement initiatives,” says Lyons.

The company received many great nominations and thanks all who participated. Melanie Nelson reflects, “It is so encouraging to see the many activists for nutrition education in their own communities. These individuals are our motivation. They are passionate about what they do, and it inspires us to keep creating resources to make their jobs easier."
