On January 7, Spartan Race issues a statement applauding Michael Brasier who will be running a marathon in London in order to raise money for Leukemia, as reported by News.com.
As stated in an article from News.com, “Mr. Brasier said he hoped to raise $1000 for every kilometer of the 42.195km race and would donate it all to the Leukemia Foundation of WA for blood-cancer research and to support victims and their families.”
According to the article, Brasier has a very personal reason behind wanting to raise money for leukemia. He recently lost his 38-year-old wife after a long fight against the disease. As if this isn’t tragic enough, Brasier also lost his three-year-old son in 2009 after a concrete pillar fell on top of him at Rottnest Island, the article reports.
Brasier, a 45-year-old nurse, said that “If in some way this could go towards finding a cure or make it a bit easier for the people and they don't have to do the same journey that I'm doing, then that would be amazing.”
In response to this news, Spartan Race, a popular mud run that takes place throughout North America and Europe, releases a statement applauding Brasier’s courage in the face of tragedy. “It is important to remember that while Spartan Race and other similar marathons and mud runs are designed for people to have fun and stay in shape, there are many others who bring a much more significant meaning by participating,” said Carrie Adams, a representative for Spartan Race. “We truly hope that Mr. Brasier will complete his London marathon and we wish him a bright future.”
