On January 8, Spartan Race commends Australian Trent Morrow, a.k.a. Marathon Man, on pushing his endurance training to the limit as he attempts to break the world record for running the most official marathons.
According to article “Marathon Man starts race for world record” in the Australian publication The Canberra Times, Morrow typically runs as “Marathon Man” to raise money for organizations dedicated to fighting cancer. The article stated he “is attempting to run the most number of official marathons in a calendar year, starting with seven in a week, from January 1.” Intrigued by how his body will react to this extreme condition, the Australian Institute of Sport agreed to monitor his physical and psychological progress.
Although the world record is currently at 114, an American runner ran 140 marathons this year but Morrow is up to the challenge. “His best time for a marathon distance of 42.2 kilometres [about 26.2 miles] is three hours, 56 minutes,” The Canberra Times reported. Inspired to lose over 30 kilograms (about 66 pounds), Morrow started running six years ago and in the New Year, he will travel to at least 20 countries to accomplish his goal.
Joe Desena, founder of Spartan Race, applauds Marathon Man’s dedication saying, “Spartan Race is all about pushing you physically and mentally and we’re proud to support a Morrow in his efforts to surpass his limits. His story is inspiring and we’re confident that with enough dedication he will achieve his goals.”
