Esther J. Nash M.D. to lead in the development of new clinical condition programs in collaboration with the company’s health informatics division

Health Advocate, Inc., the nation’s leading independent healthcare advocacy and assistance company, is pleased to announce that Esther J. Nash M.D. has joined the organization as Vice President and Medical Director.

Dr. Nash will lead the development of Health Advocate’s clinical condition programs, which are designed to identify chronic health conditions among workplace populations and their families and enable them to better manage their conditions. Dr. Nash will also work closely with Health Advocate’s new health informatics division, engage2Health (e2H).

Dr. Nash is a renowned national authority, with nearly 25 years of physician executive experience. She comes to Health Advocate from OptumHealthSM (a division of UnitedHealth Group). At OptumHealth, she was responsible for clinical innovation and strategy, leading the wellness, decision support and incentives solutions to improve population health outcomes for over 60 million consumers.

Prior to OptumHealth, Dr. Nash served as Senior Medical Director, Population Health and Wellness at Independence Blue Cross (IBC). During her 11 years at IBC, she was responsible for the design and implementation of population health programs for more than two million commercial and Medicare members, as well as developing and implementing IBC’s healthcare consumerism strategy. Dr. Nash was the architect for “Healthy LifestylesSM Rewards,” a system that rewards healthy behavior change, and ConnectionsSM, an award-winning disease management and decision support program for more than 25 chronic conditions. She was also responsible for preventive health, workplace wellness programs and clinical guidelines.

Dr. Nash’s experience includes both provider and payer leadership roles, including Vice President for HIP Health Plan of NJ, Senior Medical Director for Managed Care Operations of Prudential HealthCare for the region that included New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware, and Director of Quality Improvement and Medical Education at The Bryn Mawr Hospital, part of the Jefferson Health System.

Dr. Nash is certified by both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. She has earned the designation of Certified Managed Care Executive from the American Association of Health Plans and Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records from Health IT Certification. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
