Superbreak Celebrates 30 Years of ‘Mini-Holidays’

Superbreak, the UK’s leading city breaks provider, is set to celebrate 30 years in the travel industry on the 19th January 2013 and has re-launched an old marketing concept to tie in with its birthday celebrations.

Originally based in an office on Gray’s Inn Road – now the luxury 5 star St Pancras Renaissance Hotel – the company commenced trading with 20 telephone operators and a modest portfolio of just 91 hotels in 67 locations across the UK. The company’s product portfolio now boasts 5,670 hotels in almost 700 destinations worldwide.

Originally a marketing concept of British Transport Hotels, the name Superbreak Mini-Holidays was registered in 1983 as a private company by two former employees of British Rail, Christopher Dunn and Gordon Miller who identified a growing trend for short break holidays with increased leisure time and disposable income.

The company, now based in Heworth York following the acquisition of GoldenRail in 1990, currently employs over 150 people, has an award-winning website and is about to launch its first mobile site. Since its launch, the company has rapidly expanded its portfolio to include Eurostar breaks, mini-cruises, concerts at the O2 and more recently in December 2012, flight and hotel packages, whilst still retaining its dominant position as market leader for London theatre breaks.

To celebrate its 30th birthday, Superbreak has announced the revival of a travel concept first coined in the 1980s. ‘Sneak-a-Weekend’ includes an extensive range of one and two night packages allowing customers to make their most of their free time by taking a short break, whether it is a mini-cruise to Amsterdam, a Eurostar break to Paris or a murder mystery themed hotel break, there is plenty to choose from for an unforgettable weekend break.

Jane Atkins, Sales Director at Superbreak, said: “We’re so proud of our heritage and the reputation we have built over the last 30 years. Superbreak is a trusted name for both customers and agents, a testament to the fantastic staff working for us, many of whom have been with us for over 20 years, who deliver impeccable customer service every day.”

“We’re constantly looking for new ways to ensure our packages which can include travel, accommodation and entertainment offer holidaymakers the best value. To meet the ever-changing needs of consumers our portfolio is always developing, including the recent introduction of flights and hotel packages and Eurostar Breaks to the Continent. To thank our loyal customers, we’re offering a number of discounts and offers on some of our most popular packages.”
