On January 10, a representative of city bike manufacturer Linus Bike applauds the increase in Maryland cycling and supports the state in their effort to improve bicycling opportunities even further.
An article published by The Baltimore Sun reports on the growing popularity of cycling in Maryland and the efforts to further benefit cyclists. “In Baltimore, where a survey shows bike commuting has increased 50 percent over the past four years, city transportation officials are beginning to connect popular downtown routes and update the 2006 master plan. Bike lanes will be added to Fort Avenue, Guilford Avenue, South Street, Briarcliff Road and Greenwich Avenue,” notes the article.
The article notes Maryland’s commitment to cycling. According to The Baltimore Sun, community groups and volunteers have been recruited by transportation and parks officials in an effort to improve bicycle trails as well as create new trails. In addition, the article reports that beneficial maps and online services have been upgraded to provide cyclists with more valuable information on their mobile devices.
Jason Latty, Sales Manager for environmentally friendly bicycle company Linus Bike, believes in Maryland’s commitment. “They’re putting a lot of energy and effort into something that will truly make a difference for communities across the state,” said Latty. “By improving cycling opportunities, Maryland is improving the environment of their state. They’re improving the health of their people with each added bike lane. That kind of commitment to benefiting health and the environment should be wholly applauded.”
The article states that within the last year Maryland has seen many cycling accomplishments, including “securing more than $400,000 in state and federal money to expand the city's 40 miles of bike lanes and 39 miles of trails.”
