One of the great things about Structure:Data is that we bring in CTOs from customer companies who are defining how we use big data tools. ... They’re shaping the future of the market. - Derrick Harris, senior writer for GigaOM and chair of Structure:Data

GigaOM, a global technology media company, will host its third annual Structure:Data conference on March 20-21 in New York City. Technologists, entrepreneurs and investors will take the stage to share their secrets for turning mass amounts of data into actionable information to create a competitive advantage.

More than 700 data scientists, business leaders and investors will converge at Structure:Data to learn more about the business opportunities emerging in big data over the next 18 to 24 months. Key themes include:

  • Scaling Machine Learning in the Cloud - Machine learning is difficult and scaling it is even harder. Scientists who have done it will explain the lessons learned.
  • Personalization v. Privacy - Every day, people willingly provide their personal data. There is no oversight, no ethics and little regard for guidelines. What gives? Money or ethics?
  • The Hadoop of Plenty - Even though data seems to be everywhere, the market is still in its infancy. The challenges will become bigger and more complex, and many of the solutions will be enabled by Hadoop’s hits and misses.

“One of the great things about Structure:Data is that we bring in CTOs from customer companies who are defining how we use big data tools,” explains Derrick Harris, senior writer for GigaOM and chair of Structure:Data. “These folks have seen success and failure, they know what works, and they’re shaping the future of the market.”
