It does not take much to see that a lot of our children are having problems today,” he says. “I believe there will always be problems in the home, but how we handle those problems is as important as the problems themselves.

In “It’s Your Decision” (published by iUniverse), author Ed Grizzle recounts the emotional, physical and sexual abuse he endured as a child and offers parenting advice informed by those sobering experiences.

After an early life filled with neglect and abuse, Grizzle self-medicated with drugs and alcohol to escape his inner demons until meeting his wife and finding God. Almost overnight, Grizzle’s personality changed and he became determined to break the cycle of bad parenting with his own children.

“It does not take much to see that a lot of our children are having problems today,” he says. “I believe there will always be problems in the home, but how we handle those problems is as important as the problems themselves.”

As a survivor of child abuse and drug addiction, Grizzle is now an advocate for faith-based rehabilitation through his program It’s Your Decision, which ministers to drug addicts, prostitutes and felons.

“The long and the short of it was that I had to share what God did for me and what he can do for others, he says. “It would be irresponsible of me not to share this story with as many people as I can."

Ultimately, Grizzle’s story reflects the power of free will and ability to change one’s life in the face of overwhelming adversity, but as he says, “it’s your decision.”

“The main purpose of this book is to share from my own family’s life … how to live a life that is full of promise and love.”
