On February 27, 1986, author Steve Ambrose suffered an injury that changed his life forever. In his new book, Positive Opportunity, he looks back to the odyssey that tested and strengthened his faith and taught him what it truly means to live.

Twenty-six years ago, during a pickup game in a young businessman’s basketball league, Ambrose suffered a serious concussion which later put him in a coma. The cause was later determined to be an undiagnosed genetic blood-clotting disorder. The injury dramatically altered his physical coordination and hampered his vision, speech and locomotive abilities. At the onset, Ambrose was devastated.

It was during the time he spent in a rehabilitation center that he saw another side of his circumstances. Rather than dwell on the negative, he was grateful for having dependable loved ones who were all ready to support him and, most importantly, he realized how he could make something positive out his situation.

“In the rehab center, I was forced to deal with my disability and, in doing so, realized that I had a rock-solid family. Also, my cognitive skills were still intact. In short, I was a mental giant among the other clients. I discovered I could build confidence, patience, and endurance with these benefits and thought, ‘I’ll have the opportunity to do something positive,’” he says.

Positive Opportunities offers a glimpse into the author’s struggles and triumphs and inspiration for other people who, like him, are going through a rough patch in their life journey. Ambrose’s story is both a triumphant testament of human resilience and an uplifting true tale of hope and survival.
